Related Products or Manual Product Selection?

You can select whether the Cart Upsell feature displays Related Products or a Manual Product Selection. The former requires installing the Related Products feature and setting up Related Products on all items on your EKM online shop. The latter requires you to select a maximum of ten items from your entire range that will be displayed in the Cart, regardless of what products have been added to the basket. If you’re unsure what option to choose for your own EKM online shop, this depends on the kind of products you sell and which products you would like to increase your visibility for.

Selecting the Related Products option

  • Requires you to install the Related Products feature and add Related Products to all of the items on your EKM online shop;
  • Allows you to tailor Related Products to suit specific items - ideal for a varied product range;
  • Increases the visibility of many products in the Cart Upsell element that fluctuates according to what has been added.

Selecting the Manual Product Selection option

  • Allows you to select up to 10 products that will display in the Cart Upsell element;
  • Ideal if you want to promote ten or less products to every customer, regardless of what they add to their Cart;
  • Fantastic for promoting new product lines or a specific offer.

How many products should I add to my Cart Upsell?

How many products you can add depends on the type of products you sell and a little research for the best possible results. The Cart Upsell feature can display a maximum of ten products, but some important factors must be considered when selecting which items to list.

Aerial Themes typically display five products on the Main Cart Page, while others may display three or four. If you've selected the maximum amount using the Manual Product Selection option, your customer can click the arrows to the top right-hand side of the Cart Upsell Products to view all other products in that element. It’s worth adding the maximum number of products while setting up Cart Upsell to test how your products display on desktop and mobile devices. Note how many products are displayed minimally, which will help you decide which and how many products you want to display.

[tips]Remember that the Cart Upsell element will only display a maximum of ten products. With this in mind, if you select the Related Products option and plan to add Related Products to every item on your EKM online shop, you should limit the number you add. This will ensure a wider variety of items is visible within the Cart Upsell element.

For example, every product on your EKM online shop has added two Related Products. When a customer adds five products to their cart, the Cart Upsell element will display all ten Related Products - two items per product. The best way to configure Related Products to work alongside Cart Upsell is to look at your customer base's shopping habits and ascertain the best solution from there. [/tips]

Cart Upsell products display by default alphabetically, so if your Theme allows for five products minimally (without having to click to see the rest), you may only want to display five products. However, if you're going to list ten products in this element, remember that the first five's visibility will be much higher, as only some customers will click through the Cart Upsell items to see the full selection. So if you have five products you want to increase visibility, stick to just using those five (or whatever the minimum number is for your EKM online shop’s Theme) for the best possible results.

Cart Upsell Best Practices

Check each product:

  • Is fully fleshed out with a Description and Product Images;
  • Is in stock;
  • Has had the relevant Promo Stickers applied (if applicable);
  • Is relevant to the majority of products in the rest of your range.
