How many products should I add to my Cart Upsell?

The question of how many products you can add is down to the type of products you sell and a little research for the best possible results. A maximum of ten products can be added to the Cart Upsell feature, but there are some important factors to consider when selecting which items to list.

Aerial Themes typically display five products on the Main Cart Page, while others may display three or four. If you've selected the maximum amount, your customer can click the arrows to the top right-hand side of the Cart Upsell Products to view all other products in that element. It’s worth adding the maximum number of products while setting up Cart Upsell to test how your products display on desktop and mobile devices. Note how many products are displayed minimally, which will help you decide which and how many products you want to display.

Cart Upsell products display by default alphabetically, so if your Theme allows for five products minimally (without having to click to see the rest), you may only want to display five products. However, if you want to list ten products in this element, remember that the first five's visibility will be much higher, as not every customer will click through the Cart Upsell items to see the full selection. So if you have five products you want to increase visibility, stick to just using those five (or whatever the minimum number is for your EKM online shop’s Theme) for the best possible results.

Cart Upsell Best Practices

Before you configure the Cart Upsell feature, check each product you:

  • Is fully fleshed out with a Description and Product Images;
  • Is in stock;
  • Has had the relevant Promo Stickers applied (if applicable);
  • Is relevant to the majority of products in the rest of your range.

[tips]It’s a good idea to ensure that any products you add to the Cart Upsell have Related Products listed on their respective Product Pages. This will increase the visibility of those products, especially if your customers didn’t visit those particular product pages before they saw the Cart Upsell.[/tips]

Configuring the Feature

7. To begin with, you need to decide where you would like the Cart Upsell products to display:

8. You have a choice of the Soft Cart:

9. Or the  Main Cart Page:

10. When you have ticked the relevant boxes, scroll further down and Click Choose Products:

11. You can search for products using the Search bar at the top of the Choose Products window. The button on the right-hand side of that is a drop-down menu that allows you to search using either the Product Name or to search for a particular Category:

12. When you have located the relevant Products or Categories, tick the button to the left-hand side of each Product you would like to have displayed as a Cart Upsell product, before clicking the green Add Products button in the bottom right-hand corner of the window:

13. Scroll further down the page and to your left, you’ll see a field where you can give the Cart Upsell element a title. Examples for this field include:

  • ‘You might also like’
  • ‘Wait! Have you forgotten something?’
  • ‘This week’s faves’

[remember]If you don’t populate this field, the default text will be ‘You might also like’. [/remember]

14. When you have finished configuring the feature, you need to click the green Save button in the bottom right-hand corner:
