1. When it comes to editing the Header of your EKM online shop, we’ve been sure to build in lots of functionality for one of the most important areas of your Theme. Click the Edit button for the Header section:
2. Here you’ll see that we have divided all of the different parts of the header into different elements. Click the down arrow to edit each different element:
Design
Design Selector
In this element, you can customise how you would like the Header and Menu to display. Begin with the Design Selector by selecting which design you would like to apply to the Header:
Currently, you can choose from:
One
In this version of the Header, the logo is placed on the far left-hand side, and all of the Master Categories are visible on a horizontal menu:
Two
For this style of Header, the logo is centrally positioned with the search field on the left-hand side, and the Master Categories visible on a horizontal menu:
Three
In this version of the Header, the logo is set to the left-hand side, whilst all of the Master Categories can be accessed via the Menu button beneath:
Four
For this style of Header, the search field is more obvious, whilst all of the Master Categories can be accessed via the Menu button:
[remember]Don’t forget to customise your Theme further by matching the colours used in the different sections to your logo and brand colours. [/remember]
Menu Depth
The Menu Depth relates to how many of your Categories and Subcategories you would like to display on the menu.
Main Category will display just the Master Categories:
Sub Categories will display the Master Categories, with a down arrow next to them, that can be clicked to reveal the Sub Categories within:
Sub Sub Categories display the same as above, but clicking the down arrow next to a Master Category, will reveal any Sub Categories and links to Sub Sub Categories beneath:
[tips]It is worth adding Category Images to all of your Categories and Sub Categories, and experimenting between the different arrangements created by amending the Menu Depth and Design Selector.[/tips]
Webpage Title and Menu Title fields
Below the Menu Depth, you’ll see two fields where you can amend the title of your menu, and your Webpages, if you feel you need to. Please remember that in the case of Webpages, this does not rename the individual Webpages. If you would like to do that, you need to follow the steps in this Guide.
Saving your changes
When you have finished making your changes, be sure to click the green Save button in the bottom left-hand corner:
Logo
In this element, you can select the size your logo will display from the choices within the drop-down menu:
[tips]Why is the logo on my Theme small?
The size of the logo is restricted in size to provide a better experience for the customers of your EKM online shop. Large logos at the top of the homepage cause customers to have to scroll down to see any content and products, whereas a smaller logo allows customers to see the products and design images straight away, which encourages them to click further into your shop. In short, the area ‘above the fold’ (which is what a visitor to your Homepage can see before they scroll down) is classed as the most valuable ‘real estate’ of your Theme - it’s a lot more visible to add clickable images and links to products in that area as opposed to using it to display a large logo.
Ultimately, customers are there to purchase Products so it’s important that they can see these before anything else. You can still use your logo incorporated into Design Images on your homepage and throughout your shop, as this is very effective for raising awareness of your brand.

Search Bar
In this element, you can edit the default text within the Search Bar by amending the text in the field provided:
You can then amend the colours used on the Search Bar by clicking on the relevant squares. This opens the Colour Picker window:
Within the Colour Picker window, you can select a colour by using the large square and the slider beneath to select your colour, but if you have the hex code for the exact colour you’d like to use, paste this in the Hex field before pressing the Enter key on your keyboard.
Search Bar Border
Here you can edit the visibility and the border around the Search Bar by clicking the switch symbol:
This will reveal a square you can click to open the Colour Picker window and select your colour as you did within the Search Bar element:
Search Bar Search Terms
Within these settings, you can decide whether you would like to use the default Search Terms by clicking the switch symbol.
[remember] If your EKM online shop is on the Lite tier, you will be unable to access this setting. You will need to upgrade your account to configure your Search Bar Search Terms. [/remember]
This is turned on by default:
Using Default enables visitors to search using the Product Name and Product Code search parameters, searches will be conducted using [Product Name] AND [Product Code]. If you turn the default switch off, you will then see a lot of other switches appear. If you decide not to use default and use any of the other switches offered, this changes how the search works slightly, by using the OR command. For example, instead of using the default [Product Name] AND [Product Code], the search will use [GTIN] OR [Product Name] OR [Variants] - if you have those relevant options turned on.
[remember]
'AND' and 'OR' searches
If you use the default search on your EKM online shop, that is what is called an AND search; if a visitor types 'green slippers' into your search bar, the results will show all of the results where 'green slippers' are included in the Product Name.
If you don't use the default AND search and select specific switches instead, you are using what is called an OR search. If a visitor searches for 'green slippers', the search results will include any products where 'green' and 'slippers' are included in the fields that you have included with the default switches.
To summarise, an AND search is very specific as all given words must be in the Product Name for an item to display in the search results, whereas an OR search will feature a wider range of results because any instances of 'green' or 'slippers' in any of your nominated fields will display.
[/remember]
You can click the switch for any of these elements of attributes, and your EKM online shop will use these when running searches:
You can choose from one or more of the following:
- Product Name
- Product Code
- Brand
- Condition
- GTIN
- MPN
- Product Descriptions
- Short Product Descriptions
- Category Name
- Category Description
- Incategory Description
- Variants
[caution]The switches turned on in this element will affect the quality of search results customers will see on your EKM online shop, therefore dependent on the type of products that you sell, and this may take a period of trial and error to configure these settings in a way that is most efficient and beneficial for your customers. [/caution]
When you have finished amending the settings for your EKM online shop Header, scroll to the bottom and click the green Save button in the bottom left-hand corner:
