[warning]This guide will soon be removed, as we have a new process for adding Apple Touch Icons to your EKM online shop. All you need to do is follow the steps in this guide instead. [/warning]
[intro]In this Guide, you can use this method to encourage Google to display Apple Touch Icons and Favicons for your EKM online shop in search results. [/intro]
[caution]Using this method does not guarantee that your images will be displayed against your EKM online shop in search engine results, as what is displayed is up to Google. However, this method gives the search engine a choice of what to display instead of referring to the default platform icon. [/caution]
1. Before you begin, you need to create six different .png image files and name these accordingly:
File Name | Specifications
icon48 | 48-pixel square .png image,150 ppi.
icon96 | 96-pixel square .png image,150 ppi.
icon144 | 144-pixel square .png image,150 ppi.
apple-touch-icon-120 | 120-pixel square .png image, 150 ppi.
apple-touch-icon-152 | 152-pixel square .png image, 150 ppi.
apple-touch-icon-167 | 167-pixel square .png image, 150 ppi. |
[remember] We’re adding shortcut code for Google to reference instead of the usual .ico favicon file, so we can use .png files instead of .ico files. [/remember]
2. When you have created these images, you need to upload them to the File Manager in the Design Images tab. From the Dashboard, click Design on the left-hand side:
3. Then you need to click File Manager on the left-hand side:
4. Click the Design Images tab and then upload your images:
5. When you have uploaded your images, you need to copy the URL for each. You can copy the URL for each image by right-clicking the image name and selecting Copy:
6. You should then have a list of image files like this:
7. Your next step is to delete everything after the .png part of the URLs, so that your list of images looks like this:
8. Now, you need to return to your EKM online shop and click Theme on the left-hand side:
9. In the bottom left-hand corner, click the More Actions/Edit button and select Inject Custom Code from the drop-down menu:
10. Scroll down to the bottom of this Guide and download the .txt file:
11. When you have opened this file, you’ll see it looks like this:
12. You will need to delete everything between and including the [square brackets] and add your image file URLs so the finished shortcut code looks like this:
13. Returning to your EKM online shop, paste the code into the HTML Head Code field:
14. Then you need to scroll to the bottom of this page and click the green Save button on the right-hand side:
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get Google to recrawl my EKM online shop?
You can request Google to recrawl your EKM online shop to encourage it to ‘notice’ the icons you have added. You can do this by resubmitting your Sitemap in your Google Search Console account by following the steps in this Guide.
How do I know if it has worked?
Using this method does not guarantee that your images will be displayed against your EKM online shop in search engine results, as what is displayed is up to Google. Utilising this method gives the search engine a choice of what to display instead of referring to the default platform icon. For Google to ‘notice’ those images and display them accordingly takes time; changes of this nature take time to be recognised, and it can take weeks, or even months, for the search engine to ‘realise’ they are there.
