[intro]Before you begin this Guide, you must install the Import/Export System feature, and then export your Categories to a spreadsheet by following the steps in this Guide. [/intro]
Category managing your Categories means to set one or more existing Categories to display in more than one place. This means that the exposure of the Category and the Products within it is increased, and this improves the chance of customers purchasing Products from that Category.
[tips]Don’t forget, you can category manage your Products too to increase their exposure, using this Guide. [/tips]
1. When you have exported your Categories, you should have a spreadsheet which looks something like this:
2. The next step is to add the Edit command to the Action column. To do this, click the column header to highlight the entire column and then click the Find & Replace icon on the top right-hand side:
3. Click Replace from the drop-down menu:
4. In the window that appears, add ‘Category’ into the Find What field, and then add ‘Edit Category’ in the Replace With field, before clicking Replace All:
5. This will add the Edit command into the Action column, so when your spreadsheet is uploaded onto your EKM online shop, the system will be aware that some of the information on the Categories has changed:
Assigning Additional Categories
6. Your next step is to scroll along your spreadsheet until you see the CategoryManagement column:
7. You’ll notice in my example, that the first two Categories on my sheet - rows 2 and 3 - have already been category managed into Additional Categories. The format for adding Additional Categories is:
Home > [Category Name]
Replace the square brackets and the content within them with the name of one of your existing Categories. If it’s a Subcategory you want to use, the format would be:
Home > [Main Category Name] > [Subcategory Name]
If you want to category manage your Category into more than one Additional Category, the format would be:
Home > [Category Name]:Home > [Main Category Name] > [Subcategory Name]
You’ll notice that the Category paths are separated by a colon with no spaces on either side.
8. Repeat this process for the Categories on your spreadsheet, populating the CategoryManagement column accordingly:
9. Now you have finished working on your spreadsheet, click the icon in the top left-hand corner to save it:
Your next step is to upload the spreadsheet onto your EKM online shop.
