[intro]Before you begin, you need to have opened a Business PayPal account. However, when you have completed this Guide, you will have correctly installed the PayPal Checkout on your EKM online shop.[/intro]

The PayPal Checkout offers customers the ability to pay for their order using either a credit/debit card or to log into their existing PayPal account and use that to complete their order.

1. From the Dashboard, click Settings at the bottom of the left-hand menu:

2. Click the Payment Methods on the left-hand side:

3. Scroll down to Third Party Payments, select PayPal Wallet from the drop-down and click the green Add button on the right-hand side:

4. Click the button on the right-hand side:

5. This will redirect you to PayPal. Complete the fields provided and click Next:

6. Complete the relevant field on the next page and click the button:

7. When you have logged into your PayPal account, you will be redirected back to your EKM online shop:

Configure PayPal Checkout

Scroll further down the page, and you’ll see several different settings to configure.

Capture Payments

Here you have the option to select ‘Automatically’ from the drop-down menu, or ‘Manually’. Automatically is the default choice, and PayPal will capture payment from your customer at the point of checkout.

However, if you select Manually from this menu, you will see a ‘Take Payment’ button appear on the customer’s order, which you can press to take payment when you are sure you have the relevant products available. This is ideal if your EKM online shop sells handmade or custom products, where the stock might not be always available. As you have to manually take payment from your customer via the Take Payment button on their order, using this method also saves you from having to refund the customer should the item not be available for them.

[remember]If you have set to Capture Payments Manually, funds are authorised and held by PayPal, waiting for you to press the Take Payment button on the customer’s order within your EKM online shop. Funds are held for 3 days, but it is possible to reauthorise the payment from the 4th day up to the 29th day by using the ‘Reauthorise’ button on the order. You also have the option to ‘Void Payment’ for the order, which will cancel the authorisation and return the funds to the customer, cancelling the order. [/remember]

Purchase Description

This is how your EKM online shop will appear within the customer’s PayPal account. This should be the name - and not the URL - of your EKM online shop. Ensure that you have spelt everything correctly to ensure customers can easily identify payments made to you.

PayPal Pay Later

If your EKM online shop sells high-priced items, you may want to let your customers know that they can opt to use PayPal Pay Later on the Product Pages, Cart Page and Payments Page of the Checkout Flow. If this is the case, click the switches here to turn them on. Below this, if you even need to see details of the payouts you have received from PayPal, click the View Portal button:

[remember] Paypal is a third-party Payment Gateway, which means you are using a company external to EKM to process payments on your EKM online shop. With this in mind, EKM cannot control how the third party processes payments or influence their policies and procedures.

Whilst there are rarely issues with third-party payment gateways, on occasion, it is necessary to contact them directly to resolve any issues as our Customer Support Team is only able to investigate up to the point where the customer is transferred away from your EKM online shop to process their payment before they are redirected back again to complete the order.
