[intro]Before you begin this Guide, you need to have opened an Instagram account for your EKM online shop and branded it accordingly. When you have completed this Guide, you will have learned how to embed individual Instagram posts on your EKM online shop.[/intro]
[remember] To embed Instagram posts on your EKM online shop, this needs to be done using a desktop computer - it is not possible to do this using a mobile phone or tablet device. You also need to ensure that the Instagram profile has not been set to private - it must be publicly visible. [/remember]
1. To begin, you need to visit your Instagram profile using your browser - and not the Instagram app. The URL of your profile will be:
https://www.instagram.com/[yourusername]
2. Obviously, you need to replace the square brackets and the content within them with your own Instagram username to locate your profile as a member of the public would see it:
3. You now need to find the image that you would like to embed. When you do, you need to click it:
4. On the window that opens up to display that single post, you need to click the three dots on the bottom right-hand corner:
5. From the window that appears, you need to click Embed:
6. In the smaller window that appears, you can choose whether to include the caption for the post when you embed it on your EKM online shop. It’s recommended that you un-tick this box, however, which ensures that the image will display ‘cleanly’ on your EKM online shop (without being marred by emoticons, hashtags and possibly a font change too) and this will encourage visitors to click the embedded image to see the full Instagram post. After un-ticking the caption box, you need to click the blue button:
7. In a separate browser tab, you need to log into your EKM online shop and navigate your way to the Product Description or Webpage where you would like to embed the Instagram post. Click the Source button:
8. Scroll to the bottom of the existing HTML code and paste in the code from your Instagram post:
9. You then need to press the Source button again:
10. Scroll down the existing text and you’ll be able to see where your Instagram post has been embedded. Click the Save & Close button on the bottom right-hand side of the window:
[tips]Although you can add the code to embed Instagram posts on your EKM online shop in different places, the Product Description is the most optimum place. This is because the code provided by Instagram is responsive so it will stretch or shrink to fit whatever element - such as a Product Description for example - that it has been added to.
It’s also worth mentioning that if you want to embed a feed of your Instagram posts to your EKM online shop, you will need to use a platform such as SnapWidget which will allow you to do this, as currently, Instagram does not offer this functionality without the use of a third-party. [/tips]
