1. Before you begin, you will need to create a Microsoft account for your EKM online shop if you don’t have one already. You can do that by clicking here.

2. Click the Sign In button:

3. You now have the choice of what kind of account you can sign in with. Sign in with your Microsoft account for your EKM online shop that you created at the beginning of this guide:

4. Once you’ve signed in, you’ll see this page. Your sitemap address is your domain name, followed ‘sitemap.xml’. Add your sitemap address into the field provided and click the Add button:

Verifying your EKM online shop

5. You will then see this page, offering three options for different ways to verify that you own your EKM online shop:

6. Open another tab on your browser and log into the back end of your EKM online shop account, before clicking Design on the left-hand menu:

7. Then you need to click Theme on the drop-down options:

8. Then you need to click the Edit button beneath Theme and from the drop-down menu, select ‘Inject Custom Code’:

9. Return to the browser tab displaying the verification options, and copy the code from Option 2:

10. Return to the browser tab displaying your EKM online shop and paste the code into the HTML Head Code field, before clicking the green Save button on the bottom right-hand side of the page:

11. Wait for up to ten minutes for your EKM online shop to update, and then return to the browser tab displaying the verification options where you copied the code from, and click the Verify button on the bottom left-hand side of the page:

12. This will take you to your Bing Webmaster Tools dashboard:

Submitting your Social Media

13. You should be able to see your EKM online shop on the Dashboard beneath the Sitemaps header. Your next step is to let Bing know what social media is connected to your EKM online shop. To do this, click Connected Pages on the left-hand side menu:

14. Add in the URL of any social media profiles and click the Verify button on the bottom right:

15. You’ll then see your social media profiles listed at the bottom of the page:

Places for Business

16. There are lots of useful tools in your Bing dashboard, but these will not show any data on them yet until Bing has scanned your site and collected some information, which is not immediate and can take a couple of weeks. Whilst you are waiting, you need to scroll down to the bottom of the left-hand side menu and click Bing Places for Business:

17. This will take you to a map. Using the drop-down menu on your left-hand side, complete the details for the location of your business:

18. If you cannot find your business, you’ll see this notification. Click Create New Business:

19. This will take you to the Bing Places for Business. Sign in with your Microsoft account for your EKM online shop that you created at the beginning of this guide:

20. You’ll then need to confirm your contact details before clicking the green Submit button:

21. You’ll then need to add the name of your EKM online shop and your postcode into the fields provided before clicking the green Search button:

22. Again, no results will be found, but this time, click New Business again:

23. You’ll now be able to complete the fields provided to add your EKM online shop to Bing Maps. When you’re done, click the green Next button:

24. Add your details into the fields provided, and then click Next:

25. Add your details into the fields provided, and then click Next:

26. Upload up to ten images to represent your EKM online shop. If you have a physical shop, take some photos of the premises on a sunny day, or the interior and of your staff. Ensure that these are high-quality images to give potential customers a good idea of what your shop looks like. You can find Bing’s guidelines for photos by clicking here. It takes a moment or two for the page to update with thumbnails of your images. Use the drop-down menus beneath each image to select whether the image is of the interior of your premises, the exterior, whether it’s a log, or whether it’s ‘Other’. When you’re done, click the green Next button:

27. You then need to add your working hours using the drop-down menu. When you have done this, click the green Submit button:

28. You’ll then see this notification. Bing will send a postcard to the physical address you have listed on the previous page which contains a PIN. You need this PIN to confirm that this business listing is indeed yours. Click the green Verify Now button to trigger the postcard:

29. You’ll then see this window. Click the green OK button:

30. You will then see this dashboard:

31. Bookmark this in your browser’s favourites to return to it when your PIN has been sent through the post to finish verifying your Places for Business listing.
