Dependent on the type of Products you sell and the purpose of your EKM online shop, hiding Categories may be something you need to do often. This Guide will take you through the process of hiding Categories using spreadsheets, which can often be quicker than the manual method if you have a lot of Categories that need to be hidden from the front end.

[warning]Don’t forget, hiding Categories also hides the Products within them if that Category is the Product’s Master Category. If the Products within the Category you’re hiding are Category Managed within it (so the Category is one of their Additional Categories), you should have no problem. For more information about Category Managing your Products, please see this Guide. [/warning]

Downloading your spreadsheet

2. On the Features page, click to open the Import/Export System feature:

3. Click Export To File:

4. Click Export Categories:

5. Click Continue To Choose Download Type:

Preparing your spreadsheet

8. You should now have a spreadsheet which looks something like this:

9. The next step is to add the Edit command into the Action column. To do this, click the column header to highlight the entire column and then click the Find & Replace icon on the top right-hand side:

10. Click Replace from the drop-down menu:

11. In the window that appears, add ‘Category’ into the Find What field, and then add ‘Edit Category’ in the Replace With field, before clicking Replace All:

12. This will add the Edit command into the Action column, so when your spreadsheet is uploaded onto your EKM online shop, the system will be aware that some of the information on the Categories has changed:

Hiding your Categories

13. You now need to scroll along your spreadsheet until you find the Hidden column:

14. In this column, any Categories that are visible are indicated as ‘No’ and hidden Categories are marked with ‘Yes’. Adjust this column to suit your Categories:

15. Now you have finished working on your spreadsheet, click the icon in the top left-hand corner to save it:

Your next step is to upload the spreadsheet onto your EKM online shop.
