[intro]Product Options allow you to offer customisation to your Products by offering text fields and image uploads on the Product Pages, and a gift-wrapping service using a Drop Down List too - which can be essential for gifts.

Product Options allow you to offer an extra level of functionality to your Products and your Customers. You can offer gift wrapping on some or all of your Products using a Drop Down List, which if you sell gifts, is essential to the success of your shop. If you offer Products that can be customised, Product Options like the Text Box and the Text Area allow customers to enter the text they would like to see on the Product on the Product Page, which is then displayed on the Order for you to process accordingly. When the Product Option Image is added to a Product, this displays an area on the Product Page where customers can upload an image to be added to a customisable Product.
Product Options can be added to Products both manually using the Edit Product window and by using spreadsheets and the Import/Export System. However, if you wish to use spreadsheets, we’d recommend adding a Product Option to a Product manually beforehand, so that when you have exported your Products to a spreadsheet, you can use the manually added Product Option as a point of reference to confirm how the data needs to be formatted for the rest of your Products.
Adding Options Manually
1. From the Dashboard, click the Shop tab:
2. When you land on the editable version of your EKM online shop, click the Edit Content button (to make it white) on the top right-hand corner on the blue navigation bar:
3. You then need to locate the Product that you would like to add Options to. When you have found the Product, click the Edit Content button, and then Edit from the drop-down menu to open up the Edit Product window:
4. In the Edit Product window, you need to click the Options tab on the left-hand side. If you cannot see the Options tab, click the More Options header to reveal the Options tab:
5. Click the green Add Option button:
6. You’ll then be offered four different choices. You will need to click the Create Option button for the Option you would like to add to your Product:
Drop Down List
1. This is typically used to offer gift-wrapping services to your customers, although it can be used for a lot of other purposes, dependent on the needs of your EKM online shop. On the Product Page, the Drop Down List looks like this:
2. To begin, click Create Option for the Drop Down List:
3. Give the Option a Name in the field provided, and then click the green Add button:
4. You then need to add in the Option Choices, which are what a customer can select for the Product. Add the Name and Amount in the relevant fields, clicking the green Add button to create each Option Choice. When you have finished adding the Option Choices, click the green Update button in the bottom right-hand corner of the window:
5. You’ll then see the Product Options display within the Edit Product window like this. Click the green Add button to create the Option, before clicking Save & Close:
Text Box
1. If your Product can be customised with a small amount of text, then perhaps the Text Box is the best Option for you. On the Product Page, it looks like this:
2. To begin, open the Edit Product window and click Options:
3. Click the green Add button:
4. Click Create Option for Text Box:
5. You then need to give your Text Box a Name and select the Maximum Number of Characters a customer can add into the Text Box. You can enforce this Option - so the customer can’t add it to cart without adding text into the Text Box - by ticking the Enable Option Validation box. When you have completed these fields, click the green Add button:
6. In the Edit Product window, your Text Box Option looks like this. Click the Save & Close button:
Text Area
1. If your Products allow a larger amount of text to be added onto them, many EKM online shop owners use a Text Box for the customer to add the header part of the text, and then the Text Area is used for the main body of text. The Text area can allow a maximum of 255 characters. On the Product Page, it displays like this:
2. Click the Options tab:
3. Click the green Add Option button:
4. Click Create Option for Text Area:
5. You now need to give the Text Area a Name, specify the maximum number of rows of text a customer can add into the field. You can enforce this Option - so the customer can’t add it to the cart without adding text into the Text Box - by ticking the Enable Option Validation box, before clicking the green Add button:
6. You’ll then see the Text Area display like this. Click the Save & Close button on the bottom right-hand side:
